SOCAR’s losses caused tariff changes - minister

Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev has clarified reasons for differentiation of prices of some utility services.
During the discussion of state budget package for 2017 at the plenary meeting of the parliament, the minister Shahin Mustafayev said that the tariffs were differentiated due to the SOCAR’s losses: “We understand that Tariff Council’s decision is not so popular decision. 1,000 cubic meters of gas costs AZN 140. However, sale price of 1,000 cubic meters of gas makes up AZN 90. Therefore, it was impossible to keep the production at a certain level. Allocation of funds from the state budget was on the agenda. For gas production, repair works and transportation costs, it was decided to differentiate the tariffs. The tariffs will be applied from January 1, 2017 and the population will do payments on new tariffs in summer months. As finance minister Samir Sharifov said, it is planned to increase the amount of targeted social assistance for low-income families”.
