Pentagon pushes for end to California National Guard bonus fiasco
The Pentagon will ask only about 700 California National Guard members to repay the enlistment bonuses they received due to fraud, the undersecretary for personnel told the House Armed Services Committee.
The rest of the soldiers who were previously asked to repay the bonuses will be allowed to keep them.

An audit of the Guard’s records found a 91 percent error rate in its paperwork, which was blamed on a lack of oversight, training, and manpower.

“We betrayed the trust of the troops, and there’s no excuse for that,” said California Representative Paul Cook, a Republican who has blasted the Guard over its handling of the bonus scandal.
