Egyptian president names suicide bomber who attacked Coptic cathedral
The Sunday terrorist attack on St. Mark`s Cathedral in Cairo left more than 20 people dead.
The deadly attack in a Coptic cathedral complex in Cairo was staged by a suicide bomber, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi said on Monday. "The terrorist attack on the church was carried out by 22-year-old Mahmoud Mostafa Shafiq. The terrorist was wearing a suicide vest," Sisi said at a funeral ceremony in Cairo.

The president said four people — three men and a woman — had been detained in connection with the attack last Sunday, which left more than 20 churchgoers dead and injured almost 50. Police are searching for two more suspects, Sisi said.

St. Mark`s Cathedral serves as the seat of the Coptic Orthodox Pope. Copts are a large ethnic and religious minority in Egypt, making up between 6 and 10 percent of the population.
