Ex-Interior Minister Alfano appointed Italy`s foreign minister
Angelino Alfano, who served as secretary of Silvio Berlusconi’s People of Freedom party and as Italy`s interior minister, was appointed the Italian new foreign minister, according to Prime Minister-designate Paolo Gentiloni.
Leader of Italy`s New Center-Right (Nuovo Centrodestra) party Angelino Alfano was appointed the country`s new foreign minister, Prime Minister-designate Paolo Gentiloni said on Monday. The post was previously held by Gentiloni himself.

In 2011-2013, Alfano served as secretary of Silvio Berlusconi’s People of Freedom party, while in April 2013 he was appointed Italy`s interior minister.

Earlier in the day, Gentiloni submitted to President Sergio Mattarella a list of ministers to form the new cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony is set to be held at 19:00 GMT at the Quirinal Palace. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi stepped down after his constitutional reform proposals were rejected by Italians in a referendum, which was largely seen as an opportunity for the nation to express its dissatisfaction with the government. The "no" campaign was led by anti-establishment and Euroskeptic opposition parties.
