Azerbaijani justice minister meets with ECHR president
Azerbaijani Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov has met with the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Guido Raimondi in Strasbourg.
According to the Ministry of Justice, Mammadov informed about strengthening of judges’ independence, modernization of judicial infrastructure, application of e-court.

Mr. Raimondi stressed the significance of these measures in terms of effectiveness of justice and judicial independence which are actual in Europe. He said Azerbaijan is not among the countries which ignore the European Court’s decisions.

At the same time, sending of a judge by Azerbaijani government to the Strasbourg Court was appreciated.

Moreover, priorities of cooperation, concrete cases which are important for Azerbaijan and other issues of mutual interest have been discussed at the meeting.

Within the visit, the Justice Minister also met with Azerbaijani lawyers working in the Secretariat of the European Court. It was reached an agreement with the leadership of European Court to involve these lawyers in trainings in Azerbaijan as they have enough experience.

The meetings were attended by Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe Emin Eyyubov and Azerbaijani Representative at the European Court, Chingiz Askarov.
