Baku reacts to Rouhani’s visit to Yerevan
Iran is an independent state and President Rouhani’s visit to Armenia is an Iranian government decision, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, told AzVision.az on Wednesday.

He said one of the fundamental principles of Azerbaijan-Iran relations is non-interference in the internal affairs of each other.

It should be mentioned, however, that Armenia is a state that pursues a destructive policy in the region, makes territorial claims against neighboring countries and continues the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, Hajiyev noted.

“Over a million Azerbaijanis are living a refuge life as a consequence of Armenia’s acts of bloody ethnic cleansing in occupied Azerbaijani lands,” he added. “Armenia has looted, demolished and desecrated Azerbaijan’s cultural monuments and Islamic places of worship.”
