ECHR gives time to Armenia on case of `Chiragov and others v. Armenia`
The European Court of Human Rights gave time to Armenia on the case of `Chiragov and others v. Armenia`, Fakhraddin Pashayev, an IDP from Armenian-occupied Lachin region of Azerbaijan told AzVision.az.

`The Armenian government asked more time until Dec. 30 on the relevant case`, he said.

`10 days ago we held a meeting with our lawyers in the London Democratic Progress Institute. The time given to Armenia had been expired on September 16. We asked for the reasons for the delay of the implementation of the European Court`s resolution on the case. They told us that the Armenian Government requested more time until Dec. 30. `

`After the expiration of the time given to Armenia, Azerbaijani lawyers will appeal to the ECHR in order to achieve the acceleration of the process, F. Pashayev said.

`The Armenian Government stated, they are working on new mechanisms with the EU Committee of Ministers to compensate for a loss. We asked our lawyers to raise an issue before the Court on influence of the very mechanisms on our decision in any form.`, the IDP added.

A long time has passed since the positive decision (July 16, 2015) of the European Court of Human Rights on Azerbaijani IDP`s complaint - `Chiragov and others v Armenia`. The case covers 6 Azerbaijani refugees` claim against Armenia on April 6, 2005 who have been unable to return to their properties from where they were forced to flee in 1992 during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The European Court ascertained that citizens must reach to an agreement with the responsible state on the amount of compensation during the period of 12 months. If the agreement is not reached, the European court will make a decision on the case.
