Trump whispers to Hillary: ‘Thank you for being here’
President Trump did not mention rival Hillary Clinton once in his inaugural speech, although she attended the ceremony. But when she and former president Bill Clinton arrived at his swearing-in luncheon, Trump greeted her with a handshake and a thank you.
The Clintons were swarmed by fawning Democratic members of Congress and a few Republicans. They mingled with the nation’s leaders before settling in at a table in the corner of Statuary Hall, seated with Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the current Senate Majority Whip, and Steve Mnuchin, Trump’s nominee for Treasury secretary. When Trump entered the room he walked to the Clintons’ table and shook her hand. “Thank you for being here,” Trump whispered.
