Moldovan gov`t posthumously awards Azerbaijani man for fighting separatists in Transnistria
The Moldovan government has awarded a posthumous order to Azerbaijani combatant Gafur Suleymanov for fighting on Chișinău’s side during the Transnistrian conflict, Moldovan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Gheorghe Leuca told reporters in Baku June 24.
The order was presented to the deceased’s family by the Moldovan ambassador, AzVision.az reported.

According to the ambassador, Suleymanov voluntarily joined the Moldovan army in 1992 after having worked for the Moldovan Interior Ministry in 1990. He noted that Suleymanov stood out with his valor on the battlefield and was taken captive on two occasions.

“The awarding of an order to Gafur Suleymanov is proof of cooperation and friendship between Moldova and Azerbaijan. Relations between the two countries will continue to develop,” he added.

Gafur Suleymanov died in Baku in 2004.
