Georgia, Azerbaijan support each other’s territorial integrity - FM Janelidze
Georgia, Azerbaijan support each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, said Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
Georgia and Azerbaijan have been enjoying mutual friendly and good neighborly relations for the past 25 years, said Janelidze, addressing a joint briefing with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku Feb. 13, AzVision.az reported.

Political dialogue between the two countries stands at a high level, Georgia’s FM noted.

“Georgia-Azerbaijan cooperation continues in appropriate formats and both countries are filling to intensify this dialogue,” Janelidze said.

“Our cooperation continues within the EU’s Eastern Partnership Program. We congratulate Azerbaijan on the start of negotiations on a new agreement with the EU,” the Georgian minister said.

According to him, figures for last year’s trade turnover between the two countries are not positive.

“The region experienced a crisis. However, we have made a plan as to intensifying efforts in this area. We should make maximum use of the potential,” said Janelidze, expressing hope that all the efforts will yield positive results.

The FM went on to say that Georgia attaches importance to energy and transport projects in the region.

“We intend to increase transit opportunities. There are important projects in this direction. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project will go into service by the end of this year,” he added.
