Sobhani: Mehriban Aliyeva’s appointment as First VP historic for Azerbaijan
Appointment of Mehriban Aliyeva as the first vice president of Azerbaijan is historic for the people of Azerbaijan and in particular, for women in the country, Rob Sobhani, director general of the Caspian Group Holdings, told Trend Feb. 21.
President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva was appointed first vice president of the Republic of Azerbaijan by President Ilham Aliyev’s order Feb. 21.

“It is historic from a global point of view, because it shows that a Muslim country can appoint a woman to one of the highest offices and not any woman, but a woman who is capable, intelligent and has a track record,” added Sobhani.

He noted that this appointment is important for Azerbaijan, because every little girl today in Azerbaijan can look at Mehriban Aliyeva as a role model, and say “someday I can be a minister, someday, I can be a vice president and someday I can be contributing to Azerbaijan.”
