Karabakh conflict settlement should be priority for France’s next president -Senator Reichardt
The peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be priority for France’s next president, French Senator André Reichardt, who is also the head of the France-Caucasus Friendship Group in the Senate, said in an article published by in La Revue du Trombinoscope magazine, with circulation of 15,000 copies, the France Office of The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS)told.
The March issue of the magazine is devoted to France’s presidential candidates and recommendations on the future foreign policy of Paris.

He pointed out that thanks to the diplomatic cooperation that was established between France and Azerbaijan 25 years ago, relations in various fields, including collective security, energy and economy are developing in an upward trend.

According to the senator, despite such good relations and the fact that France is a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is carrying out a mediation mission on for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan, due to the influence of certain strong lobbies, faces major difficulties in conveying its position to the French public.

Given the abovementioned, Reichardt urged France’s next president to demonstrate “exemplary objectivity”.

The French senator stressed the need for an early solution to the conflict, which he believes affects the political and economic stability of the region neighboring the EU.

Reichardt said this conflict left a deep imprint on Azerbaijan and about one million people become refugees and internally displaced as a result of the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts.

At the end of his article, Reichardt proposed organizing inter-parliamentary discussions between the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides in the French Senate in order to achieve progress in the negotiation process. Such a proposal was voiced during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to France in March this year.
