EU, Azerbaijan share a number of common interests
“Our cooperation through Eastern Partnership is an important tool to work in partnership towards these shared interests”

The EU and Azerbaijan share a number of common interests – energy security is just one example, Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, told APA.

“Our cooperation through Eastern Partnership is an important tool to work in partnership towards these shared interests. We offer concrete support: assistance of up to € 94 million from the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) is available for Azerbaijan in the years 2014-2017, not counting regional cooperation. The objective is to partner with Azerbaijan in supporting its own path to modernisation, focusing on regional development, education and justice reform,” she underlined.

Maja Kocijancic added that the upcoming review of the European Neighbourhood Policy will be an occasion to jointly adjust, if need be, the cooperation between the two partners.

“As far as the visit is concerned – the intention is indeed to visit Azerbaijan before Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, most probably in April but at this stage we cannot confirm the precise date,” she noted.
