He made the remarks at a meeting held with the Kazakh president in an expanded format in Baku April 3, AzVision.az reported.

"I am confident that the decisions we’re going to take today will increase the trade turnover tremendously and will create new conditions in terms of regional cooperation,” said President Aliyev, noting that both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are doing a lot to strengthen regional cooperation through economic development projects, concrete transport and energy projects.

“It’s pleasing to me that our companies are beginning to make mutual investments and these efforts are already coming to fruition,” he added.

The Azerbaijani president congratulated Nazarbayev on the occasion of Kazakhstan’s election as a member of the UN Security Council.

“This is a confirmation of Kazakhstan’s role in global issues, acknowledgement of your individual influence, and recognition of your peace-keeping initiatives in the region and beyond,” stressed President Aliyev.

Azerbaijan’s head of state continued: “We’re well content with the development of our relations. Today we exchanged our views on a number of issues. This exchange of views showed that our positions overlap with regard to all the issues discussed. We had thorough discussions about political ties and prospects in the economic and transport areas. Now we’re going to continue these discussions with the delegations involved.”

President Aliyev said he believes the Kazakh leader’s visit to Azerbaijan and the decisions to be made during the visit will also stimulate the private sector in order to increase mutual investments.

“I want to greet you once again and let you know that I’m confident that this visit will be very successful and bring our countries even closer,” concluded President Aliyev.
