Israel, Azerbaijan enjoy high-level political ties – ambassador
Israel and Azerbaijan enjoy high-level political relations, Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dan Stav told reporters on Thursday, AzVision.az reported.
Tomorrow, April 7, will mark the25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Israel, said the diplomat, recalling that Israel is the forth country to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence.

Israel-Azerbaijan ties are of strategic importance, said the ambassador, adding: “The history of our relations has not started since 1992. The Jewish community has been living in Azerbaijan since the 7th century BC. They are part of Azerbaijan. They share the joys and sorrows of Azerbaijan.”

He stressed that relations between the two countries are unique.

According to the diplomat, Israel and Azerbaijan have a common position regarding the Middle East issue.

“Our countries are suffering from conflicts, so they stand for peace. Both countries are islands of stability in the Middle East,” he added.

Dan Stav continued: “Azerbaijan and Israel have multicultural values, and both countries show tolerant attitude towards the representatives of different religions. From this point of view, Azerbaijan is a unique model. Representatives of different peoples live here in peace and tranquility.”

The ambassador noted that the defense sector is one of the main areas of cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan.

Pointing to good bilateral relations in the energy sector, Dan Stav called Azerbaijan a reliable supplier of oil to Israel.

He went on to note that the relations between Azerbaijan and Israel in non-oil sector are also developing.

“There is a good mutual understanding between the leaders of the two countries. Our political relations are at a high level,” said the ambassador.

The diplomat stressed that the trade turnover between the two countries, excluding defense and energy sectors, totaled $260 million last year. “We hope that this figure will increase this year,” he added.
