Over 1 mln sq m area cleared from mines, UXOs last month in Azerbaijan

Over 1 mln sq m area cleared from mines, UXOs last month in Azerbaijan

In January 2015, 1,056,733 sq m area was inspected and cleared from mines and unexploded ordinances (UXO) in Azerbaijan.

81 UXOs, 8 anti-tank mine and 24 anti-personnel mines were detected and neutralized, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told.

484 specialists and 121 assistants, 6 mine clearing vehicles and 36 mine detection dogs were involved in the operations.

So far, a total area of 279,354,449 m² has been cleared, 689,704 mines and UXOs detected and neutralized.

ANAMA is still conducting mine-clearance operations in Aghdam, Aghjabadi, Aghstafa, Fuzuli, Gazakh, and Terter districts.

One mine/UXO accident was recorded in January 2015.
