"As for whether Russia is heeded or not, we have noted that the tonality of meetings on Ukraine was different in January," he told the Rossiya 24 television channel. "Extreme positions are upheld by only three delegations - of the United States, Great Britain, and Lithuania. The others demonstrate more nuances, let alone new delegations to the Security Council that are close in spirit to us."

"I think that even on such complicated topic, Russia’s voice is heeded. Gradually, maybe even too late, but positions are being adjusted and there is understanding that it’s not all that simple, that things cannot be put as straight as that Kiev is fighting for democracy in Ukraine whilst some hostile forces are seeking to stop democracy. There is understanding that the situation is by far that straight and that it is impossible to begin political settlement Russia has been advocating all this time without comprehending what is going on in Ukraine, its numerous problems, without giving an unbiased assessment of the Kiev authorities’ actions," he said.

"We continue to maintain contacts with the American delegations and with other five permanent members of the Security Council on other matters," he added.

He stressed that the unconditional priority is to put an end to the civil war in Ukraine.
