Some provisions of draft convention on Caspian Sea’s legal status agreed upon
The 49th meeting of a special working group on development of a Convention on legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of deputy foreign minister of the Caspian littoral states was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on June 1-2, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov also took part in the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the State Enterprise for the Issues of the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan Murat Atajanov.

Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov made a speech at the meeting.

The parties discussed some uncoordinated issues on the draft convention. As a result of the negotiations, some provisions on the draft convention were agreed upon.

The parties welcomed the results of the negotiations, expressing gratitude to Turkmenistan for the high-level organization of the meeting.

They decided to hold the next meeting in Iran, the date of which will be fixed through diplomatic channels.
