Human rights and freedoms ensured in Azerbaijan - Ilham Aliyev - PHOTOS
The “3rd Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Organizations and Ombudsmen of the ECO Member States” is underway in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The meeting is expected to discuss issues of preventive measures in fight against corruption, role of ombudsmen in fight against corruption, mutual legal assistance in fight against corruption, best practices and challenges as well as the latest status of the ECO “Regional Centre for Cooperation of Anti-corruption Agencies and Ombudsmen” (RCCACO).

Fuad Alasgarov, the President’s Assistant for Work with Law Enforcement Bodies and Military Issues read out the welcome message from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, AzVision.az reports.

The president states in his message that Azerbaijan attaches huge importance to the development of tolerance and building intercultural dialogue on a global scale.

“The declaration of 2017 as ‘Islamic Solidarity Year’ in Azerbaijan and the holding of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku are important contributions in this direction. Baku’s hosting this meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is yet another significant event. Today, Azerbaijan is a modern country with stable economy. Azerbaijan achieved great successes in economic and social spheres,” said President Aliyev.



He stressed that Azerbaijan is a modern country that has ensured sustainable development.

“A system of transparent relations has been created and human rights and freedoms are ensured in our country. The model we apply in public services is considered to be the best in terms of prevention of corruption. This event of the Economic Cooperation Organization will contribute to strengthening cooperation further,” the president added.

Assistant to the President for Work with Law Enforcement Bodies and Military Issues Fuad Alasgarov, Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov, Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Inam Karimov, Dean and Executive Secretary of IACA (The International Anti-Corruption Academy) Martin Kreutner as well as leading officials of specialized anti-corruption agencies and other state bodies from Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and the representative delegation of ECO consisting of Secretary General and representatives of other international organizations attended the meeting.

Attending the meeting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov underlined Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to mutual cooperation in the Islamic World.

“ECO which Azerbaijan became member in 1992 has operated efficiently in fight against corruption since 2004,” Garalov added stating the importance of the 3rd meeting.
