Baku’s population reach 2.5 million people
The population of Azerbaijan has increased by 3,700 people (0.2 percent) since early 2017, amounting to 2,249,500 people as of April 1, 2017, the Baku Statistical Department told on June 7.
During this period the share of urban population was 53 percent, rural population - 47 percent.

Besides, 49.6% of population are men and 50.4% are women, said the Department.

The density of population in Azerbaijan amounted to 1,051 people per square kilometer during the reporting period.

About 7,336 children were born in Baku in the first three months of 2017, including 52.4 percent – boys, 47.6 percent – girls. This indicator features 13.2 births per 1,000 people in the country. Of the newborns, 92 are twins and 1 triplet, according to the Department.

Around 3,556 deaths have been registered over the first three months of 2017. The mortality rate per 1,000 people accounted for 6.6.

During the reporting period, the registry offices recorded 2,957 marriages and 1,134 divorces.
