Election results see record number of women elected into parliament
A RECORD number of women have been elected into parliament as almost 200 have been voted in as MPs.
In a number of firsts in this General Election more women than ever before have entered into the House of Commons.

By 6am on Friday 192 women had been elected from 650 constituencies – a record high.

Many female MPs were re-elected following successful campaigns, but a number of first time women MP’s were elected.

Returning MPs Dianne Abbott, Yvette Cooper, Emily Thornberry, Amber Rudd, Caroline Lucas and Ruth Davidson were all elected to parliament.

The General Election saw Theresa May retain her seat, but also saw her bid to retain a Conservative majority fall short.

This morning it has been confirmed the UK will have a hung parliament as key Tory areas were lost, some for the first time in decades.

Several key Tory strongholds such as Canterbury lost their majority as the Conservative party failed to win over voters.
