Sharif, who is serving as premier for the third term, is facing charges of financial irregularities and holding off-shore companies, was summoned soon after he returned from Kazakistan, local broadcaster Dawn News reported quoting unnamed government sources.
The supreme court last month formed a six-member joint investigation team to probe the whistleblower Panama papers scandal after Sharif narrowly survived in a landmark apex court judgment.
The investigators, including members of the country's two top spy agencies -Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence-, have already grilled Sharif's two sons and two close aids in the past two weeks.
Sharif, according to analysts, is facing a disqualification threat in Panama scandal, has decided to appear before the investigators on given date, Dawn News reported.
His rightwing Pakistan Muslim League, which won 2013 elections with a landslide majority, however has accused the investigation team of harassing and pressurizing the witnesses for "desired " statements.
The investigators, for their part, deny the charge, and themselves accuse the government of hampering investigations.
