Qatar blockade should be extended to Turkey, Egypt’s Sisi suggests
The foreign minister of Bahrain's recent visit to Turkey implied that Egypt's request was not fully supported by the Gulf country as sources said that he did not receive a response from the Gulf regarding the matter.
After the reports of Sisi's suggestion surfaced, Turkey's opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli strongly condemned the Egyptian president in a tweet on Thursday.
"The suggestion and call of Egyptian President Sisi is clear. I condemn this coup plotter who said that the same sanctions on Qatar should also be imposed on Turkey."
Last week, five Arab countries -- Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen -- cut off ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.
Qatar has denied the accusations, calling the moves to diplomatically isolate the country "unjustified." Ankara has said that it stands with the small Gulf state against sanctions and has urged Riyadh to take the lead in finding a solution to the crisis.
