“Today, we give new impetus to the development of Poland-Azerbaijan relations. During the presidency of Kaczyński, he made visits to Azerbaijan and I made visits to Poland. During these visits, we strengthened our friendship, talked about joint projects, and initiated some projects. Now, the next period of Polish-Azerbaijani relations is beginning,” he said.
The Azerbaijani president said that a sincere exchange of ideas took place during the meeting.
“Poland and Azerbaijan are two friendly countries. We will continue to strengthen our friendship and we will make joint efforts for the development of our relations.
Today, many important documents were signed. These documents determine the prospects of our cooperation. Of course, I would like to note the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership and Economic Cooperation signed by the Presidents. This is a very serious political document. This declaration covers almost all aspects of our relations, as well as political, economic, energy, transport issues. This declaration also mentions the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and notes that this conflict should be resolved based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity of states, inviolability of their borders and resolutions of the UN Security Council. I would like to express my gratitude to you, Mr. President, for this fair position. I want to add that the Azerbaijani state and people have been suffering from Armenian occupation for more than twenty years now. As a result of this occupation, 20 percent of our lands have been occupied. More than one million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and displaced persons in their native lands. This conflict should only be resolved on the basis of the norms and principles of international law, within the territorial integrity of the countries. These theses are reflected in the Joint Declaration,” he said.
The Azerbaijani president said that the mutual relations cover the economic sphere.
“Transport and energy - I think these should be priority directions of the economic bloc. In the field of energy, Azerbaijani oil is delivered to Polish markets. Today, along with partner countries, Azerbaijan is successfully implementing the Southern Gas Corridor project. This project will deliver Azerbaijani gas to Europe. The total cost of the project is $40 billion and its implementation is being successfully carried out. I hope that the first phase of this project will be completed by next year and the second—and final—phase by 2020. Thus, Azerbaijan will act as a very reliable partner for Europe,” said Ilham Aliyev.
