Explosion near US Embassy in Kabul - four dead & 11 wounded - UPDATED
A suicide bomber blew himself up on a busy shopping street near the heavily-fortified US embassy in central Kabul Tuesday, killing four people and injuring 11 others, officials said, AFP reported.
It was the latest in a series of deadly attacks to hit the Afghan capital, and comes around three months after a massive truck bomb ripped through the same area, killing about 150 people.

"At around 10:00 am (0530 GMT) a suicide bomber set off his explosives near a private bank and close to Massoud Square. More details later," Najib Danish, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s interior ministry, told AFP.

The explosion is believed to have hit near Massoud square, where the US embassy is housed along with several other western diplomatic buildings.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said the blast occured at the entrance to a Kabul Bank branch, not far from the embassy.

There are believed to be casualties following the blast which took place at roughly 10:15am local time (7:15am GMT), although police are yet to confirm.

Unconfirmed reports claimed the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber, who triggered the blast after being spotted by police in the area.

The public health ministry said one person had been killed and eight wounded.
