Current situation on Karabakh conflict cannot be considered acceptable - Patriarch Kirill
The current situation on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can not be considered acceptable, said Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
He made the remarks at a meeting with Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II in Moscow on Friday.

Patriarch Kirill expressed his gratitude to Allahshukur Pashazade and Karekin II for accepting his offer to meet.

“The peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia are striving for progress, strengthening peace. I highly appreciate the possibility of holding such a tripartite meeting, because we, as believing people, speak a different language than politicians. We have potential that helps us overcome disagreements,” he said.

“I hope that today we will be able to come to an agreement and work out a text reflecting our common attitude towards the solution of the problem,” added Patriarch Kirill.

Karekin II, in turn, expressed concern over the fact that the Azerbaijani side prefers strengthening armament.

He accused Azerbaijan of evading the peace talks and violating the ceasefire.

Recalling last year’s April war, the Armenian Catholicos said that at that time Azerbaijan was waging a large-scale war. Karekin II stressed the need to remove snipers from the line of contact and resolve the conflict peaceful.
