`Azerbaijan is a unique country and there is no such country anymore` - Markov
Taking into consideration Azerbaijan’s special economic and political role, Azerbaijan has a right to talk of power when it comes to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sergei Markov, the Russian political scientist, journalist and social activist told at the conference titled the 'Moscow-Baku Axis: Towards a New Caucasus Geopolitics'.
Today Azerbaijan has a special place in the geopolitical region. The expert also pointed out that the recent meeting held between General Petr Pavel, chairman of the NATO Military Committee and General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and first deputy minister of defense in Baku was a clear example of official Baku's geopolitical role.

Markov reminded the high level of the living standards in Azerbaijan. “Azerbaijanis come to Russia as a tourist as well. Azerbaijan currently offers wide range of opportunities for Russian tourists. Due to the changes applied to the current visa regime, the number of tourists coming from Iran, Arab countries to Azerbaijan has increased.
