We ourselves set new standards - Azerbaijani president
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday attended the opening of the newly constructed building of school-lyceum No 20 named after Arif Huseynzade, in Yasamal district, Baku.
President Aliyev met with students and the teaching staff of the school, APA reported.

“I congratulate you on the beginning of the new academic year. In this academic year, you will study, and work in a new school. I congratulate all pupils and teachers on this remarkable event,” said the president.

The head of state noted that the school-lyceum meets the highest international standards.

“We ourselves set new standards. This school, being the largest school of the country, has a great history. And today it continues to operate in a new building”, he said.

The president recalled that ten years ago necessary measures were taken to repair the school.

“I visited this school, repair work was done here, and it was possibly acceptable at that time. However, it did not correspond to today’s development of our country. Therefore, it was decided to demolish the school building and build a new one in its place,” President Aliyev said, adding. “I remember that at that time, teachers and students had some concern that another building would be built on the site of the demolished school building. But our plan was to build a new school on the site of the historical school No.20. A magnificent building was constructed during 2.5 years. Today, the largest and most beautiful school in our country is school No.20. It's not so easy to earn this name because plenty of beautiful schools have recently been in districts and in Baku. Some of the schools are architectural monuments. This school is distinguished by its beauty, comfort and supply among all schools. I am sure that the quality of education here will be at the highest level as well.”
