Akhmetov served almost 2 years in prison out of 10 years he was handed in Dec.2010 for power abuse and embezzlement of entrusted property.
In early 2017, Akhmetov's unserved sentence was reduced by 1.7 years as he was granted amnesty on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the country's independence.
The colony where Akhmetov is serving his sentence hosted on September 5 a closed court meeting, where it was decided to grant Akhmetov's appeal to replace his unserved prison term of 4 years and 26 days with restrained freedom.
The release, however, does not mean Mr Akhmetov can leave the country and the city, visit entertainment places and bars/pubs.
He is obliged to regularly check in at the police station, according to the media.
Akhmetov has completely reimbursed the damage to the state.
