ANAMA, NATO to launch third phase of Jeyranchel clearance project
Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) will hold an event, titled “Presentation of the third phase of the Jeyranchel Project of the ANAMA-NATO/NSPA Partnership for Peace Trust Fund and prospects of future projects of Trust Fund in Azerbaijan”.
The territory of Jeyranchel, located in the northwestern part of Azerbaijan along the border with Georgia, was intensively used by the Soviet Army as a testing and training ground in 1955-1991.

During the first phase of the project that last from April 2012 to July 2014, 14, 654 UXOs and 173 mines were found and disarmed in an area of 19 square meters.

An area of 23,585,545 square meters cleared off mines and UXOs during the second phase of the project that last 24 months. In addition, 1,553 UXOs and thousands of metal splinters were found and disarmed during the second phase.

The third phase that was commenced in January 2017 is aimed at conducting clearing operations in an area of 22 square meters. The third phase is expected to come to an end in 2018.

The third phase of the ANAMA-NATO/NSPA Partnership for Peace Trust Fund Project “Jeyranchel Clearance Project” on the clearance of 21.395.505 square kilometer area was officially confirmed by NATO. Turkey has taken the role of the Lead Nation for this project. The Government of Azerbaijan contributed 50% of the total budget of the project.

The presentation of the third phase of the project will be held on September 26 in Baku.
