Another tank explodes at scene of deadly blast in Glenville
A gas tank exploded Thursday morning at the same asphalt plant where two men died in a blast last year, officials said.
The eruption from one of the tanks at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions on Freemans Bridge Road ripped the top off a tank and sent guests scrambling at the just-opened Homewood Suites next door.

Firefighters prepared to evacuate the building but the flames were quickly brought under control and guest were allowed to remain in the hotel.

No one was injured by Thursday's blast at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions, town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said. The plant is owned by Gorman Bros. Inc. of Albany. Firefighters said several employees were at the plant when the tank exploded but investigators were still trying to figure out what triggered the blast.

It is the second time in less than a year authorities have had to confront an emergency at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions. The last time, the results were deadly.

Last fall, two workers at the plant were killed after a tank exploded while they were transferring liquid asphalt between tanks.

Thursday's blast occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Foam was used by firefighters to reduce the possibility that fuel and other volatile liquids could burn. Some of the foam was flowing into the Mohawk River.
