Talks underway to free Azerbaijanis detained in Iraq, diplomat says
Talks underway to release Azerbaijani nationals who were detained in Iraq for illegally crossing this country’s state borders, Azerbaijani Charge d'Affaires in Iraq Ramiz Gafarov told, AzVision.az reports citing APA.
Gafarov said that the list of those people and the data that which way and when they came to Iraq are being clarified. “After all this, we will try to get them freed and sent to Azerbaijan.”

The diplomat noted that talks are also being continued with the Iraqi government to ensure the return of Azerbaijani children rescued from ISIL militants to their home.

“There are many such children. Since the exact number of children is unknown, it is too early to say anything. Currently, the children are being kept where they were found. We try to accommodate them in suitable place close to us,” Gafarov said.

“We are in close contact with employees of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to determine the exact number of children and establish their identities. Upon completion of the talks, all children will be sent to Azerbaijan,” added the diplomat.
