Konya warplane crash unrelated to Azeri-Turkish drills
The crash of a military plane in Turkey’s Konya province has nothing to do with the Azerbaijani air force, taking part in joint drills in that country, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said in a message March 5.

Azerbaijani air force`s complete staff is taking part in the joint drill, and they have had no casualties, the ministry said.

The ministry also noted there is no information about the crash of a Turkish warplane during the exercises.

Earlier, the Turkish media, which reported about the crash of a warplane in Konya, said one of its pilots managed to bail out, but there was no information about the other pilot.

Later, the governor of the Turkish province of Konya confirmed that two pilots of the plane were killed in the crash.

The exercises dubbed “TurAz Sahini 2015” kicked off March 3 under the plan for military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The exercises involve three MiG-29 and three Su-25 jet fighters, and an Il-76 military transport aircraft of Azerbaijan’s air forces.

Aside from that, four Mi-17 military transport helicopters of Azerbaijan’s air forces were dispatched to an air base in Konya to participate in international search and rescue exercises called ISIK-2015.

The exercises will last until April 13.
