St. Petersburg hosts conference on inter-confessional dialogue and Islamic solidarity
An Azerbaijani delegation have attended a conference under the motto “Russia-Azerbaijan: inter-confessional dialogue and Islamic solidarity for peace, security and cooperation" in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation.
Co-organized by the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Caucasus Muslims Office, St. Petersburg State University, and the Spiritual Administration of the northwestern region of Russia, the conference is part of a series of international events held under Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's initiative to declare 2017 as a "Year of Islamic Solidarity in Azerbaijan".

The delegation included MPs, heads of institutes of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and religious figures.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade extended greetings of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the event participants.

Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade described tolerance and multiculturalism as an integral part of the state policy in Azerbaijan.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, chair of the bilateral commission Ilyas Umakhanov then read out chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko's message to the event participants.

The event then featured a video address by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
