"Belarus again wants to prove itself as a peacemaker," Minsk political analyst Andrey Fedorov explains the activity of Belarusian diplomacy.
"Against the background of supposedly successful meeting of "Norman Four", which was held in Minsk, the Belarusian authorities (possibly foreign minister, and perhaps the entire country) has decided to use it. This implies the desire to continue its diplomatic success," he said.
The analyst told this to Radio Liberty, commenting on the possible contribution of Belarus in the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"This initiative was put forward at the beginning of the 90s of the last century by the then Belarusian Foreign Minister Kravchenko. The goal had been the same - to draw the world`s attention to Belarus.
The group was created. It is called the "Minsk Group". But in my opinion it had nothing to do with the Minsk. And for more than twenty years, that group had no relation to Belarus," Andrey Fedorov.
The conflict does not go in the military phase, as Russia with the CSTO, which includes Belarus stand for Armenia. And Turkey with NATO stand behind Azerbaijan`s back, the international observer Roman Yakovlevsky said.
"Formally, Belarus, and above all Russia, have to come out in defense of Armenia. However, the recent visit of President Aliyev in Ankara confirmed the special status of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, according to the formula: one nation - two countries.
Therefore, the balancing on the brink of conflict continues. This is especially beneficial for Russia. It benefits from balancing and selling weapons, both to Azerbaijan and Armenia. And it`s quite a lot of money.
I think the state of neglected conflict will remain," the expert said.
"Turkey and NATO stand behind Azerbaijan`s back."
