Erdogan: Turkey, Vatican mull so-called Armenian genocide

Turkey expressed its displeasure to the Vatican over the claims of Armenians in connection with the events of 1915, the Turkish media cited the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying Feb. 6.

President Erdogan was commenting on the results of the visit to the Vatican.

Erdogan said that Pope Francis listened to his statements.

"Pope Francis is in solidarity with Turkey on the occasion of the so-called Armenian genocide," Erdogan said.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
