Iran’s FM hails importance of South-West transit corridor

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined the importance of the South-West transit corridor during a quadrilateral meeting with counterparts from Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“The transit corridor will not only connect our four countries together, it will also provide access form Indian Ocean to Black Sea as well as to the Mediterranean,” Zarif told the first meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the four countries in Baku.

The South-West international transport route is designed for the transportation of goods between the European Union and India. The South-West corridor, stretching through Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine, will greatly reduce the period of cargo transportation.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Baku today morning to take part the four-sided meeting.

Georgia, Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a statement at the end of the meeting.
