Stadium stampede in Madagascar kills one, injures 37 - Hospital

At least one person died and 37 injured on Sunday in a stampede at the entrance of a stadium in Madagascar's capital Antananarivo before the start of a football match between Madagascar and Senegal, according to a hospital source.

"There was a stampede in front of the stadium (…) for now we have a report of one dead and 37 injured," said the director of Hrja hospital, Oliva Alain Rakoto.

According to witnesses, thousands of fans had been massing outside Mahamasina Stadium since early morning.

The Africa Cup of Nations match was set to start at 2:30 pm (11:30 GMT).
