Iran’s Zarif says starting all over with US again impossible

Iranian Foreign Minister criticized US disloyalty and its withdrawal from Iran Deal, saying starting all over with US is not possible, IRNA reports.

Zarif made the remarks in an interview with US media New Yorker.

“We live in a world of possibilities, so nothing is impossible, but we need to see,” Zarif was quoted as saying.

“First of all, we’re not angry. Now, if it’s going to lead to resolution, you need to be able to build on what you already have, because, I mean, you remember the movie ‘50 First Dates,’ when you start all over again the following day,' he added.

'We can’t. This is impossible. You need to be able to have a relationship that is based on some foundations. And we have a document”—the nuclear deal—“that is a hundred and fifty pages long. It's not a two-page document,' he reiterated.

He went on to say that “I’m not ruling out the prospect of talks provided the necessary conditions for talks, and that is reliability.'

“Reliability is different from trust. Reliability is that when you sign something you are bound by it. Pacta sunt servanda is the old idiom, the basis of international relations.”

“Otherwise everything will fall apart. We are waiting for some sense of realism,' Zarif reiterated.

Zarif together with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in New York on September 23 to attend the UNGA meeting.

He also participated in the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit and held talks with P4+1 foreign ministers.

Zarif and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in their first joint statement after the US withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal underlined preserving the agreement and meeting Iran's economic interests.
