Kazakhstan may start supplying wagons to Azerbaijan

The Ministers of Energy of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Kanat Bozumbayev and Parviz Shahbazov, have noted an increase in trade turnover between the two countries, Kazinform reported.

"The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan for 8 months has increased by 2.1 times compared to last year, that is, by about $ 168 million. In 2017, an instruction was given to double the turnover in the next 2-3 years. But we assume that if such trends continue, then we will have to complete the task of doubling the turnover prematurely, before the end of the year," Bozumbayev said.

"It is important that the Azerbaijani side have resumes purchases of Kazakh grain in reply to our request. This also caused a rise in the turnover," Kanat Bozumbayev said before commencement of the 15th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

He noted that the exports for 8 months have more than doubled, and the imports have grown by about 75-76 percent.

"The Azerbaijani side supplies steel structures, ferrous metal products, pipes, and so on, which is used in the west of the country during implementation of oil operations, modernization of the Tengiz field. We, in turn, supply agricultural products, engineering products and oil products. Now the discussion is underway between railway administrations on the supply of railcars and locomotives, but upon condition of the pre-export financing," the minister said.

Parviz Shahbazov also expressed his opinion on the results of cooperation for the current period.

"Over the past period of 2018, there was a serious increase in commodity turnover. We have such a wide range of mutual cooperation covering a lot of areas - economy, culture, humanitarian issues, that it is very difficult to answer this question. We conduct multilateral cooperation on almost all issues", he said.

"Today, the 15th meeting of our intergovernmental commission is being held, where we will summarize the results of the past year. We have a very voluminous and informative draft document that we are going to sign today. And I believe that will do even more work in the continuation of our last year’s work as part of our roadmap," Parviz Shahbazov added.
