 Road linking Georgia with Russia opens for cars after heavy snow and avalanche risk

Passenger cars have been allowed on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, AzVision.az reports citing Agenda.ge.

The Gudauri-Kobi part has been closed since last night due to avalanche risk which is no longer existent since snow removal works have been carried out, the Roads Department said.

Trailers and semi-trailers are still prohibited from moving on the Gudauri-Kobi road due to intense snow and ice.

Earlier, Gudauri-Kobi part of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road has been closed since last night due to intense snow and avalanche risk.

All types of vehicles were prohibited to move along the Gudauri-Kobi part of the road, the Roads Department said.

The National Environmental Agency expects that the weather will worsen throughout Georgia until January 8.

Rainy weather is expected in most regions of the country, snow and strong wind in mountainous parts while there is a possibility of storms on the seaside.
