Game of Thrones prequel cast and director announced by HBO

The full cast list for the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel has been announced.

Joining confirmed cast members Naomi Watts and Poldark star Josh Whitehouse are Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Humans star Ivanno Jeremiah, Denise Gough and Crimes of Grindelwald's Jamie Campbell Bower and Toby Regbo.

Variety has revealed that the cast will be rounded out by Star Wars star Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim (Harlots) and Alex Sharp, most recently seen in How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

SJ Clarkson will direct the pilot episode. She was recently hired as overseer of the now-delayed Star Trek 4 becoming the first female director in the franchise's history. Her credits include Netflix shows Jessica Jones and The Defenders.

Screenwriter Jane Goldman, who co-wrote Kick-Ass with Matthew Vaughn, is behind the prequel, which takes place thousands of years before the events told in Game of Thrones. She’ll work closely with Martin whose bestselling novels, published as part of the series A Song of Ice and Fire, were adapted into the most successful TV show in HBO history.

The cable network currently has five Thrones-related projects in the works with Martin confirming others are currently in “active development”.
