Heavy rains in northwestern Pakistan kill 37 people as buildings collapse
Officials in northwestern Pakistan say heavy rains have killed at least 37 people.
Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani says the storm Sunday also injured over 200 people. The storm included hailstorms and strong winds and saw buildings collapse as it uprooted trees and electric poles.

He says an emergency has been declared at all local hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where Peshawar is the capital.

Commissioner Munir Azam says the rain started Sunday afternoon and has caused heavy damage to infrastructure.

Azam says flights at the Peshawar airport have been suspended because more rain is expected overnight.

The Pakistani army says troops have been sent to the area to launch rescue and relief operations.
