Joint projects further strengthen Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood – official

Joint economic projects being implemented by Turkey and Azerbaijan further strengthen the brotherhood of the two countries, deputy chairman - executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov said, AzVision.az reports.

Ahmadov made the remarks at a meeting with a group of Turkish MPs who are on a visit to Azerbaijan.

“Every guest from Turkey is dear to Azerbaijan,” he noted. “We feel the same when we go to Turkey. The foundation of the Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship was laid by Heydar Aliyev.”

Ahmadov added that Turkey has become one of the powerful countries in the world.

“We are proud of it,” he said. “Together with Turkey, Azerbaijan is growing stronger. The strength of these two countries further increases their greatness. I believe that Turkey is also proud of the development of Azerbaijan.”

He noted that Turkey’s efforts regarding the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are the greatest support.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
