Four people arrested at May Day rallies in Istanbul
Istanbul
All the detainees are students of one of the universities in Turkey and are the citizens of the country.

In February, Turkey’s parliament adopted a package of reforms on security, under which the participants of rallies are prohibited to hide their faces behind masks, and such behaviour is regarded as a threat to public safety.

Aside from that, the use of the Molotov cocktail during the rallies is equal to the use of weapons.

Today, the rallies of trade unions kicked off in Istanbul. The rallies are timed to coincide with the International Day of Solidarity of Workers - May Day.

All the sea voyages in Istanbul’s waters were cancelled due to the May Day marches in Turkey. Aside from that, Istanbul’s metro will not operate on May 1.
