Champions League Player of the Week: Messi, Son, De Ligt and Firmino nominated

Champions League Player of the Week nominees have been shortlisted and they include Lionel Messi, Heung-Min Son, Roberto Firmino and Matthijs de Ligt.

All four players represent their clubs that made it through to the semi finals including Barcelona, Liverpool, Tottenham and Ajax. Messi was the star of the show when the Barca showed Manchester United their superior tactical masterclass at the Camp Nou.

The 31-year-old scored a brace in Barcelona's 3-0 win over the Premier League side to book their place into the next round. Son on the other hand, sensationally helped Spurs overcome the almighty Manchester City in their second leg fixture at the Etihad.

The Korean international scored two early goals in the first half that helped his side qualify into the semis on away-goal rule despite losing 4-3 on the night.

Liverpool continued their dominance over FC Porto in the Champions League with a 6-1 aggregate win as Firmino produced a five-star display in the second leg. And giant killers Ajax, continued their fairy tale story in the elite competition as a Matthijs de Ligt's header won it for the Amsterdam side at Juventus backyard.

The semi final fixture will see Barcelona face another Premier League side Liverpool while Tottenham and Ajax have everything to play for in the other contest.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Lionel Messi has broken his silence following the exit of Juventus from this year's Champions League in the hands of Ajax Amsterdam.

Juventus suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Dutch side on Tuesday night, April 16, at Allianz Arena to dump the Italian giants out of the competition on a 3-2 goal aggregate.
