Azerbaijan detained four criminal groups last month over smuggling
As a result of the measures taken by the State Border Service (SBS) against smuggling, illegal migration and drugs trafficking in April 2015, 38 trespassers were detained over 28 cases in April.
24 of them are citizens of Azerbaijan, 6-Iran, 3-Uzbekistan, 2-Russia, one each of Tajikistan, Georgia and Ukraine, SBS press service told.

6 persons were detained over 4 cases of violating border regime and 21 persons were detained in 12 cases by the Caspian Sea.

244 wanted persons were detained and handed over to corresponding bodies. The smuggling of drugs with total weight of 27 kilograms 276,8 grams was prevented in 20 cases.

Last month four criminal groups were detained over smuggling. 8 group members were brought to justice and sentenced to pre-trial detention. Search operations and investigation are underway for detention of others.

As a result of the anti-smuggling measures, smuggled goods amounting to a total of approximately AZN 551,000 in 60 cases, including two 9-mm cartridges, one brass knuckles, a knife, an optical sight, USD 3,700, RUB 270,000, AZN 11,000, IRR 539,000, 21 large- horned animals, 3 horses, 2 pieces of jewelry, 3,285 boxes of cigarettes, 13 mobile phones, 180 alcoholic beverages of different sizes and brands, 2,500 m grid, 4 boats, 1 engine, 4,000 hooks, 15,716 medicines, 3,000 religious books and other consumer goods were found and seized.
