Judo Grand Slam opens in Baku

An opening ceremony of Baku Grand Slam tournament commemorating national leader Heydar Aliyev has been held at Heydar Aliyev Sports Palace.

Addressing the ceremony, Azerbaijan`s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov noted that sport plays an important role in developing friendly relations among countries and peoples.

Head Sport Director of the International Judo Federation Vladimir Barta thanked the Azerbaijan Judo Federation for excellent organization of the tournament.

President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Rovnag Abdullayev expressed confidence that the Grand Slam will be delivered successfully.

A video was screened, highlighting national leader Heydar Aliyev`s attention to sports and Azerbaijan`s sports achievements.

Baku Grand Slam brings together nearly 450 judokas from 57 countries. Azerbaijan’s squad includes 28 male and 15 female fighters.
