Today’s double standards being demonstrated by countries which formed the OSCE Minsk Group, their attempts to equalize the conflicting sides, and the incomplete nature of international structures have become big obstacles instead of finding a exact solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Novruz Mammadov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and Director of the Foreign Relations Department at the Administration, said in his presentation “Azerbaijan in the modern international relations system” which he prepared for the conference titled “Azerbaijan in the modern world”, organized by the New Azerbaijan Party in Baku on May 7.
N. Mammadov also noted in his article that Azerbaijan has faced Armenian separatism on its own soil and is a country that feels the controversies among world actors more than anyone.
“The co-chair countries` leaders should have realized that as development of democracy is a matter of national security for them, restoring control over the occupied territories is a matter of national security for Azerbaijan,” the PA official added.
Touching on the relations between the EU and Azerbaijan, Mammadov said that today Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries joining the EU`s Eastern Partnership programme.
“We refused to sign the association agreement as this document did not reflect EU’s recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. However, there are 4 UN Security Council’s resolutions on the conflict. On the other hand, how is it that the EU recognizes the territorial integrity of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine but steps back when it comes to Azerbaijan? Taking into consideration a number of such aspects, Baku stands aside dramatic upheaval emerged in Armenia and going on in Ukraine,” Mammadov stressed.
