President of the European Olympic Committees Patrick Hickey, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz spoke about the values of Europe, as well as sport traditions and potential.
They applauded organizing of the First European Games. Patrick Hickey stressed his last visit to Baku, saying he deeply impressed with ongoing works and 5 weeks had to complete preparations for the inaugural European Games. The president EOC said this event was a good opportunity to show everyone the successes of the Games.
Martin Schulz said holding the European Games would demonstrate fair, tolerance and mutual respect values, saying development of sport is significant for the tolerance.
Vice President of EOC Janez Kocijancic praised the preparations to Baku 2015 European Games.
The event saw speech by President of European Karate Federation Antonio Espinos.
Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov provided an insight into overall achievements of Azerbaijan gained under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, saying the country successfully hosted international events.
Azad Rahimov also highlighted preparatory process to European Games, as well as works done by the European Games Organizing Committee under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.
The participants viewed a promotional video about the Baku 2015 Games.
Baku was awarded the Games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organise and run the Games in co-operation with the EOC.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
